Junker Sled racers have been known to enjoy their snowmobiles outside of just race day. It's hard to build a fun to beat on sled and restrict use of it to one day. So getting it registered can be a good way to get a bit more seat time out of your junker.
In Wisconsin, if you are a member of a snowmobile club you will get a discount on your trail pass. This is both helpful to the clubs who maintain the trails you love to enjoy and gets your snowmobile on the trail at a lower cost. So we encourage you to join the Three Lakes club, Northern Lights Snowmobile Club, if you're not already a member of a club or even want to join another club.
Here is a link to their page: http://northernlightsclub.com/join/
Additional savings to registering a Junker Sled can occur if you are savvy enough to find one that falls under 'antique' registration.
To be considered an antique under the Wisconsin DNR definition, the sled must be 35 years or older at the time of registration. This means that in 2019, a 1984 or older sled is an antique .
Registration only costs you $20 for three years and you are exempt from having to purchase a Trail Pass. All this info can be found on the Wisconsin Snowmobile Laws Handbook: https://dnr.wi.gov/files/PDF/pubs/le/LE0201_2016.pdf
So get some seat time with us cruising the local trails and register that pile!
PS. Thanks for the tip Clifford!
