Junker Sled Rule Book / race flag info

These rules are your responsibility to know and understand. Flag information under 'Rules' section

  1. NO DRINKING ALCOHOL until you are done racing or driving any track work vehicles!!

  2. For the Main(A&B), Junker Farts, Junker Puffs, Double Junk, Junior Junk, and Slow Leaf, your entire sled must be WORTH $500 or LESS.
Fast Leaf it must be WORTH $750 or less.
    This includes cosmetics and seat.
Excluded from your snowmobiles 'worth value' are wear items such as hyfax, carbides, oil, belts, and spark plugs. Tethers, taillights, and any other safety equipment also do not count against the value.

  3. All Snowmobiles must be model year 1990 or older. This includes entire chassis, suspension, and engine. Suspension must be 1990 or older geometry; upgraded shocks and springs are allowed.
Max ski center distance of 38".

    Ski-DLoop Hole:
Ski-Doos up to 1992 are allowed in and up to the 470cc liquid cooled engines.

  4. Maximum track lug height of 1" measured from outside of track belt (side that touches the snow) to the tippy tip top of the lug.

  5. All sleds must have a functioning tether switch. No exceptions. Tether must be attached, not held in hand, to rider whenever the engine is running.
  6. Main (A&B), Puffs, Farts, and Double Junk sled Engine Limits:
Liquid cooled must be 440cc or less.
Fan or free air cooled must be 600cc or less.

    Fast Leafer Engine Limits:
Liquid cooled must be 400cc or less.
Fan or free air cooled must be 600cc or less.

Slow Leafer and Junior engine Limits:
Must be 400cc Fan or smaller.
Some Free Air exceptions are allowed. 400cc or smaller Free Air sleds: Arctic Cat Jags, Polaris Colts.
Examples of sleds that are illegal for Slow Leaf are El Tigres, TXs, GPXs, or TNTs. 340 Exciters are also not allowed.

  7. Any time a snowmobile track is spinning off the ground, it must be on a track stand  (unless of course catching some sweet air on the race track) . No person may hold the sled up by hand while track is spinning. It is recommended that the track stand at least have a 'backboard' to keep flying snow and track debris from getting shot across the pits.
Tether must be attached to person.

  8. All sleds must have a working tail light. Battery operated setups are cheap and easy to install if you're sled's wiring is crap.
Please cover head and tail lights with a clear tape of some sort. Each year we have to clean up tons of light lens and housing pieces haha. We're trying to attempt to reduce some of the tedious work.

  9. No studded tracks as well as no added bought or homemade paddles or traction enhancers.

  10. All METAL ski loops must be completely covered in thick foam. Pool Noodles or Pipe Insulation from the hardware store work well.

  11. Ski Loop Failure is an automatic mechanical black flag. Ski spears are very dangerous, make sure ski loops are secured well.

  12. No exoskeleton framework, a sensible front and rear bumper is allowed.

  13. All racers must wear a chest protector or tekvest, helmet, and eye protection. No exceptions!

  14. All sleds must be numbered, three digit maximum, with a highly visible 6” or greater number/text height on both sides of the machine. White background with Black lettering, or Black background with White lettering is preferred. HIGH CONTRAST is a must. We will make you change it in the pits if our Lap Counter says that he won't be able to see it.
It benefits you as racer to make your number as highly visible as you can so track workers can easily count your laps and place you properly.

  15. Registration starts @ 6:30am.
Drivers Meeting is @ 9:00am sharp. If you miss or are late to the drivers meeting you do not race. Just like other events one person will not be allowed to hold up the show for everyone else.
All racers should be registered and ready to race by 9:00am!
If we do not get everyone through tech before the driver's meeting, there will be time after the meeting to finish teching sleds.

  16. Any racer under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign waivers for you to race.

  17. Any racer who refuses tech inspection or post race tear down at discretion of race director will be disqualified. Inspected snowmobiles will not be reassembled by inspection group.

flags

Green Flag

When displayed, the green flag indicates that the course is clear, and that racing is underway.

Yellow Flag

  • Standing Yellow - You are approaching an incident where your and other's safety are at risk. The racing surface may be clear but there is immediate danger if you left the racing surface. Slow significantly and proceed through the incident at reduced speed. There is no passing from the flag until past the incident.
  • Waving Yellow - You are approaching an incident that has great danger to you and others. The racing surface may be partially or completely blocked. Slow significantly and be prepared to stop. All efforts should be made to proceed through a Waving Yellow in single file order. There is no passing from the flag until past the incident.

Red Flag

When a red flag is present, the RACE MUST COME TO A STOP.  Racers must come to a controlled stop as quickly as possible. Please wait in a safe location with visibility of track workers. Wait for direction, track workers will help direct you to the pits or to the start line for a restart.

If at all possible to do so safely, stay stopped in the order or placement, this will help keep race restart organized.

Black Flag

  • Closed Black Flag - Pointed or shaken at an individual snowmobile/racer is a warning to that particular individual for driving in an unsafe and/or improper manner. Continued unsafe and/or improper driving will result in an OPEN BLACK FLAG.
  • Open Black Flag - Pointed and waved or shaken at an individual snowmobile/rider: you have been warned, now you are done. Please immediately proceed with caution, in the same flow direction as the race, to the pits. Meet track workers in the staging area for consultation.

Checkered Flag

Displayed at Finish to indicate that the race is finished. Continue cautiously to pits and congrats on Checkers not Wreckers!
